There was once a man called Ah Seng. He was a shop assistant in a grocery store near the market. He was given the key to the store as he was supposed to be the first to arrive and open the shop at six in the morning. He then had to pack the groceries, sweep the floor and clean the table. By seven o’clock, he had to make sure that the five metal racks of dried goods, bread and cookies were displayed neatly outside the shop. The owner would usually come by at eight and Ah Seng had to have coffee ready for his boss. He would then have to walk to the nearby coffee shop to buy breakfast for him.
Ah Seng had to work every day except Sundays as the shop would be closed. Although Ah Seng worked very hard, he hated his job. He found it especially hard to wake up at five o’clock almost every morning and to follow the daily routine. One day, he decided to quit.
