It has been suggested that teachers provide students with more knowledge than other tools like the Internet, libraries, or TV. I firmly disagree with such statements and this essay will elaborate upon and support my view.
There is a saying that goes “Better learn your friend than your teacher” which proves the general approval that one can learn much more from outside of school because school is basically the most common form of education. Education, however, is expressed through various things. The Internet, for instance, is only the most powerful tool for information exchange, in which one can find almost any study materials in writings, images, or videos that are simplified so that most people could comprehend. This tool alone threatens the purpose of a teacher, whose main task is breaking down information for his/her pupils.
There are more aspects to teaching that involve a person’s emotions and methods of imparting knowledge that will make a good student a genius. However, teachers are often known to be harsh on students that are not well-behaved, sometimes even punishing them severely. Such a way of treating students may make them lose interest in studying in the future. There are now programs, shows that are equally as educational as school programs, that children and teens can participate in, where they will be free to grow as a person and not afraid of making mistakes, such programs can be found on the Internet and the TV.
To sum up, there are many means of education such as the Internet, the TV, or libraries that contain knowledge, if not much wider, the equivalent of what can be taught in school. Additionally, some students might not prefer interacting with a teacher, who can mock and yell at them. Therefore, I believe that students learn far more on these channels than from their teachers.
Sample 2:
There are many who prefer supplementary methods such as the TV, internet and books for enhancing their learning. However, teachers have, and always will be an inseparable part of the classroom. This essay shall advocate how the teachers provide more than just academic learning.
Graphical representation of the academic content always helps the students to grasp better. For example, learning about Geography and History from the Discovery channel, or reading articles about tricks to solve math problems on the internet, makes students more interested in studying. There are also many students who prefer a background or in-depth knowledge of certain concepts, so they prefer to read books on that particular subject outside of their academic curriculum. We can say all these things assist students to self-learn, but somewhere without a teacher, this method may go haphazard.
There is a flood of information on the internet and thousands of books published on a single subject. What content is authentic on the internet or what books are relevant for reading, is supposed to be guided by the teachers. Teachers know the content and know how to explain it. They motivate the students for high levels of performance. Good teachers are great performers and storytellers that rivet their students' attention. Apart from academic learning, teachers teach the students about the techniques of amplifying information, and when to execute the knowledge they have. These are life lessons that the students won’t know about unless taught to them by an experienced professional.
Therefore, in closing I’d say that more than the books, TV and internet, teachers are more of our mentors. Teachers don’t teach school or university subjects; they teach how to learn them on their own. Teachers engineer learning experiences that manoeuvre the students into the driver's seat and then step aside.
