Healthcare costs all over the world are rising due to the rise in modern diseases which are a product of unhealthy lifestyles. These Lifestyles include a poor diet, smoking and lack of exercise. While many people do not need to use medical services, there are others who constantly need medication due to their unhealthy daily lives. In my view, people who are responsible for their own illness should have to contribute towards the cost of their medical treatment.

First of all, it is important to highlight the fact that ignorance is not an excuse. Information about health and fitness is widely available so everyone should know that smoking and eating fast food are not only bad for our health but can cause serious diseases. Furthermore, there is a wide range of help services which people can consult for advice on improving their health from doctors to sports trainers and dieticians. People who continue to live unhealthy lifestyles despite advice from doctors or medical professionals should not receive free or reduced cost medical services.

Secondly, it is clear that certain types of treatment are very expensive, and some diseases can be prevented by adopting a healthy lifestyle. If people who are obese require treatment, they are taking money away from another patient, whose operation or treatment may be costly, but necessary. Therefore, it could be a good solution to make people pay some money towards the cost of their treatment. If their health improved, this payment could be reduced.

In conclusion, making people contribute towards the cost of medical treatment for self-inflicted diseases could help reduce this type of disease and make more money available for other people.

Low quality of life and poor nutrition in contemporary society has urged us to find out the root causes and adopt relevant measures. Some argue that individuals subject to illnesses should be charged more for what stems from their own choices. From my viewpoint, this idea is totally invalid.

Current fast-paced lifestyles have led to many involuntarily adjusting their ways of living to their tight schedules. A case in point is when modern office workers become drowned in their heavy workloads and are left with no choice but to lead a sedentary lifestyle. Working mothers provide another salient example. Playing dual roles means most of them must sacrifice sleep, leisure time and workout for childcare, household errands and financial responsibilities. It is therefore unfair to put people under financial constraints due to their undesired lifestyles.

How processed food affects our diets casts further light on the argument. Artificial coloring and flavoring have long been propelling the profits of the food processing industry. These chemicals add to the appeal of foods and beverages, extend their expiry dates and lower manufacture costs as compared to using natural ingredients.

In other words, no matter how informed and cautious consumers are about grocery shopping and diets, it is highly likely that they have already absorbed a sizable amount of toxins from both home-cooked food and restaurants meals in their whole life. This may be refuted by some who promote organic products as healthier alternatives.

However, noteworthy is the fact that organic goods are yet to be widely available in many places, and they are usually exorbitant to those of average and low income for daily consumption.

In summary, I am opposed to punishing those accused of leading unhealthy lifestyles and having poor diets with expensive medical payments. This is simply because not many of us enjoy the freedom to live as we desire.

Sample 3:

People who cause their own illness due to the consumption of fast food and poor diets should have to pay more for health care.

On the one hand, fast food makes life easier. Junk food can be prepared easily, and the cost is very low. Most of the hotels provide these kinds of food as the demand is also high for fast food. Even children are interested in these food items. They can be made at home in emergency cases as it requires only less time for cooking. It replaces most of the fruits and vegetables which are available from our own garden. Thus, the minerals and vitamins which were supposed to be available from natural food are also lost.

On the other hand, it contains various chemicals like Mono Sodium Glutamate (MSG), which is a banned substance due to the after-effects that occur on human health because of its consumption. It is also a flavouring substance as it makes the user repeat the usage of fast food. These chemicals can even lead to death. Poor diets and lack of exercise also cause a negative impact on health. Due to the negligence in the field of exercise, diseases like obesity are affected and reduce productivity.

In my opinion, the continuous usage of fast food and poor diet can cause severe health issues, which result in in-hospital treatment. For this, a lot of amounts should be required for the bills. Thus, the money saved on healthy food by replacing it with fast food must be spent at hospitals and on medicines. And also, health is already lost, resulting in very disastrous old age. Hence it is advisable to reduce the usage of fast food and promote the consumption of healthy natural food.
