As we progress as a society, a trend of homogenization between various cultures is seen across the world. While some people feel this change is threatening, I am of the opinion that this is a good development. Therefore, the following essay will enlighten my perspective of the same.
Culture is often elucidated as the value systems and the way of life that a community follows. Our planet is home to innumerable cultures, each more unique and intricate than the other. In the earlier days, when cultures did not interact much with each other, they remained unchanged and uninfluenced by others. But, with the ushering of globalization in the age of modernization, the world has become a smaller place, and cultures have interacted very well with each other. And, like an individual becoming a global citizen, cultures are adapting to each other and forging into a singular entity with different adaptations. This is a sign of progression and acceptance of each other, according to me, and tells us that with the world shrinking, humans have gotten closer to each other.
The positive aspects remain that people are getting closer, and identities are becoming more and more homogenous. This leads to the creation of a single identity for all the earthlings, making the world a safer and better place. The negative thing is that cultures and ancient practices will get disturbed, thus hindering the age-old rituals and traditions globally. This can pose a dilemma, as creating a new identity in the form of a new, inclusive culture is just a result of the destruction of several identities. Some opine that this is a negative development as the original idea of culture needs to be preserved and safeguarded. I feel this is also true in one sense, but when we put things in a larger perspective, homogenization of cultures brings more good than bad. And if we think about it, an individual can still protect and preserve his true culture in the most earnest of efforts.
Hence, cultures across the world turning similar have a lot of positives attached to them.
