Some people believe that the environment cannot be overhauled by individuals, rather it could only be improved by large organizations and the government. I strongly disagree with this statement because I believe that individual actions play the vital roles to facilitate the efficient activity of the waste management system, and they do it by conserving the environment and creating awareness among mass people
One of the most effective steps an individual could take is to maintain an appropriate disposal of non-biodegradable items. This would not only improve the environment, but also boost the efficient recycling of plastics and metals. Moreover, a large portion of pollution could be easily curbed if each of the citizens contributes towards maintaining a low emission atmosphere and restricts the wastage of natural resources. For instance, most of the Europe's environment has no pollution, as numerous citizens have opted for automobiles running on green fuels, and they have restricted usage of natural resources. Furthermore, it is not about the myriad ways that could be employed to make environment better, rather it is about the mindset of the people of a nation that needs to be transformed.
In addition, individuals can also influence other people in society through different channels; they can inspire more people to participate in a wide variety of environmental protection activities. A friend of mine is an environmentalist who established a Facebook page to encourage people to take part in her ocean cleaning team. The number of participants has been increasing significantly over the past few months. This example clearly shows that even with a very minor individual effort, huge support can be received from the public if we promote it in a proper way.
All things considered, the environment cannot be improved all alone by the government or large companies; rather it is the people of a nation who play an important role in environmental protection alongside the local authority and large companies’ contributions.

The claim that "Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment, only governments and large companies can make a difference" simplifies the complex issue of environmental conservation. This essay argues that alongside the pivotal role of governments and corporations, individual actions are equally crucial for a sustainable future. It will examine the synergy between large-scale efforts and personal initiatives in nurturing environmental health.
Governments and large companies indeed wield substantial power in effecting environmental change, possessing the resources and reach necessary to implement wide-ranging policies and innovations. For instance, government legislation can enforce emissions reductions, while corporations can invest in sustainable technologies, significantly curbing environmental degradation. These entities are pivotal in addressing global challenges such as climate change and deforestation, suggesting that their role is irreplaceable. Their ability to enact swift, large-scale changes underscores the argument that "only governments and large companies can make a difference."
However, undermining the potential of individual actions is a critical oversight. Grassroots movements and personal lifestyle changes have historically driven societal shifts towards sustainability. Simple acts like reducing waste, adopting renewable energy sources, and supporting eco-friendly businesses can collectively create a substantial impact. Furthermore, public demand for sustainable practices can influence both governmental policies and corporate strategies, demonstrating the interconnectedness of individual and institutional efforts. This challenges the notion that "Individuals can do nothing to improve the environment," highlighting the symbiotic relationship between personal initiative and systemic change.
In conclusion, the monumental efforts of governments and corporations are crucial, yet individual contributions are vital for environmental conservation. The oversimplified dichotomy overlooks the complex nature of environmental challenges, underscoring the need for a collective approach. Embracing both individual and large-scale actions is key to a sustainable future, highlighting that everyone has a role in preserving our planet.
Sample 3:
The problem of environmental degradation is becoming ever more significant nowadays; however, there is still a huge debate regarding who should be responsible to clean up the environment. I agree to some extent that the government and multinational firms should be made accountable for the damages, but I strongly believe that pollution will only be eradicated if every one of us work towards the same goal with the help of organizations.
To begin with, collective action is the key to alleviating environmental pollution. Everyone themselves does not have the power to change the earth for the better, but the billions of individuals together can make immense impact. For example, if everyone recycles one bottle every day, collectively the earth would have recycled 100 billion bottles daily and more than 30 trillion annually. Imagine how many marine animals can be saved from dying each year from plastic poisoning and suffocation.
On the other hand, governmental bodies and firms also have a major role to play in the creation of a cleaner and more sustainable earth. More specifically, governments should take the leading role in advocating and advertising the positive externalities of improving the environment, this may include educating the young about benefits of recycling, reusing, and reducing waste materials, which may eventually be passed to their parents, generating multiplier effects. Additionally, governments have the authority to provide prizes to businesses who reduce pollution to a certain level. Thus, firms will be encouraged to develop more environmentally friendly production methods, so preserving the environment.
To sum up, no individuals have the ability to make a big difference, but one should not think that they can leave it to others, because eventually no one will do anything due to this lack of accountability. Therefore, everyone living on earth is responsible for making a difference.
Sample 4:
In today’s globalised world, environmental protection has become a significant concern for everyone worldwide. However, it is argued that only the government and business conglomerates contribute to environment protection. For these people, an individual is roleless. However, I can’t entirely agree with this viewpoint because individuals can make substantial efforts to protect the environment.
It is undoubtedly true that human intervention to mother nature has led to the deterioration of the environment and has posed some serious threats. As a result, there is an urgent need to save the environment. People should realize it and make some significant contributions to protect the environment. For instance, they can save water by closing the faucet when not in use, save power by turning off the lights, and clean up the community garbage. In addition, a group of individuals can educate local people on pollution, set up campaigns to teach the conservation of water and trees, and so on.
Furthermore, individuals’ efforts will impact the environment positively. Despite the government’s efforts to safeguard the environment, every individual can make a habit of preserving the environment. Also, every individual has the right to make their own choices about protecting the environment. For example, individuals can make a difference by choosing public transportation for short distances. They can also follow the 3Rs, reduce, reuse, and recycle. The most effective way to protect the environment is to conserve energy, refrain from dumping wastes into the soil, and curbing plastics. Finally, they can attempt to plant as many trees as possible to maintain the ecological balance.
However, the government and business tycoons make a difference, where the government introduces environmental protection laws and implements strict regulations to address large-scale issues. The tycoons contribute donations to the government to carry out its strategy. Subsequently, they continue to cooperate and make full use of their powers to shield the environment.
To summarize, an individual’s input and efforts can significantly make the world a better place to live. As a result, I strongly oppose the claim that individual contributions are unimportant. They are just as important as the governments and businesses’ contributions in making a difference in the environment.
Sample 5:
For many people, environmental protection is solely the responsibility of governments and corporations, not of individuals. However, I believe that this huge task requires the cooperation of all forces in society.
Individuals can be considered as the smallest units of society where environmental actions start. Indeed, when living in the natural world, each person has a variety of needs every day to fulfil, and many of them directly affect the environment. For instance, a reduction in the use of plastic bags by a shopper, or an action of turning off unnecessary lights seems insignificant on the surface but really makes great differences in protecting the environment. In particular, cutting down on the number of plastic bags means saving the environment from the excessive plastic waste which leads to the contamination of oceans by micro-plastic. Meanwhile, using electricity sparingly helps limit the emission of greenhouse gases in thermal energy generation and slows down the depletion of natural resources like coal and natural gas. Therefore, thousands and millions of actions of each person during his or her life can entail a huge sum of impacts on the environment.
However, there also needs to be the interference of governments and colossal organizations in the fight against environmental pollution. Governments are expected to create a legal frame to ensure people do not dare to trade their clean environment for their economic achievements. Laws on forest protection, proper treatment of industrial waste, limited use of agricultural chemicals, heavy taxes on products harmful for the environment and the like are essential to keep society on track in sustainable development. Also, the participation of countries in international treaties of carbon neutrality also engender laws that require more responsibility from the corporate world to curb air pollution. As for huge companies with numerous manufacturing activities, they need to have their waste treated reasonably before discharge. If this is ensured, there will be at least no water and soil pollution in industrial zones and their neighbouring residential areas.
In conclusion, no matter how much people or organizations can contribute to the improvement of the environment, joint efforts of the whole society are essential to ensure that the contribution of one party is not ruined but resonated by that of others.
Sample 6:
It might be debated whether or not regular people have any responsibility for preserving the planet. There are others who believe that in order to save Earth, governments and corporations must shoulder an enormous responsibility. Both of them, in my view, need to do their part to protect the environment.
In the first place, it is correct that legislation protecting habitats should be enacted. All businesses, no matter how big or little, are in business to increase their wealth and earnings. They are more concerned with making money than they are with preventing catastrophic climate change. For instance, pollutants from industry cause severe air pollution in urban centres. Furthermore, there are industries that dump their garbage into waterways. As a result, the environment and aquatic life will suffer. This, in turn, will have repercussions for the planet's biosphere. Governments should thus impose heavy fines on businesses to encourage them to cut back on emissions and toxic waste.
Second, government entities should use social media to promote green behaviour. Therefore, advocating for recycling, decreasing plastic usage, and urging garden tree planting. The ideal approach is this, in my opinion, because forcing them to do it is like allowing reckless parents to have children. Overpopulated countries like India value individual freedom, making it more challenging to impose rules on the populous. In addition to this, individuals should be encouraged to use public transportation rather than driving.
In conclusion, governments should prohibit legislation that mandates emission and harmful material reductions by businesses. But individuals do their share by opting for eco-friendly lifestyles and taking advantage of public transportation.
Sample 7:
Only large corporations and governments can effect lasting change in the environment; individuals can do nothing to help. Since many different people have made important advances in this area, I strongly disagree with this viewpoint.
To begin with, many people all around the world have been working tirelessly on their own, for their own personal causes, to enhance the environment, and many have been rather successful. They have improved the ecosystem while working primarily alone with little help from the government. Tulsi Gowda, 72, who was recently honoured with India's highest civilian honour, the Padma, is a prime example. He cultivated a forest from scratch by planting more than 30,000 plants.
Second, self-employed people can start their own cleanliness projects for the sake of the environment and with minimal initial expenditure, all while avoiding cumbersome governmental red tape. They start with what they have, right where they are. They typically succeed through sheer determination and the assistance of volunteer resources (both financial and human). The river Kali Bein in Punjab, India was cleaned up in the year 2000 by the well-known environmentalist Balbir Singh Seechewala with the help of just volunteers. Whereas most projects that are undertaken by large corporations or governments need substantial investment of time and money.
As a result, I would argue that it is not correct to say that people on their own cannot effect positive change for the betterment of the environment, and that only governments and large organisations can do so. In contrast to popular belief, a huge number of individuals acting independently and successfully for the sake of the environment can accomplish the mission of restoring nature to her pristine splendour.
Sample 8:
It is commonly held nowadays that governments and multinational corporations are better equipped to clean up the environment than individuals are. In the next paragraphs, I'll elaborate on my arguments.
To begin, the government is better equipped to protect the environment due to the wide range of measures it can take. The transportation system, the leading contributor to global warming, is one of the many things that are primarily the purview of national governments. Due to inadequate public transportation options, many people in the United States rely significantly on their own cars. If the government invests in and makes improvements to the public transportation system, more people will choose to use it, and the difficulty associated with reducing pollution will be greatly reduced. But no single person can do these tasks.
However, big businesses play a crucial part in this as well. Waste from manufacturers, both in terms of toxic gases and water, is a significant contributor to pollution. It can be seen that during the process, manufacturers require a significant amount of water and fuel. After that, the waste is released into the environment, which eventually leads to a decline in the quality of life for both humans and marine life. Many serious environmental concerns can be easily alleviated if multinational corporations employ eco-friendly raw materials and energy sources and properly dispose of water.
To wrap up, I no longer believe that the government and huge corporations can effectively improve the environment by providing better quality transportation and by switching to renewable energy sources.
Sample 9:
Nowadays, environmental protection has become one of the most important issues the public are concerned about. While some people deem that it is the responsibility of the government and big companies to protect the environment because they hold power and pool the resources necessary while individuals are too feeble to make a lot of effort, I think that every individual can make a difference.
There is an old saying that goes as: Constant efforts bring success. This means that individuals did have the capacity to save our motherland if they band together and move towards the same direction. For example, if everyone in China saves one piece of paper every day, nearly a million trees can be saved in one day. Therefore, we must realize the power of each person and shoulder our own responsibility.
Moreover, the most important thing must be the effect on big companies and factories caused by public awareness and habits. Specifically, environmental-friendly behaviors of the public can largely influence the business strategies of big companies. For example, when disposable plastic bags are not popular anymore in the market, the manufacturers will stop their production and find eco-friendly replacements such as fabric bags. Thus, the power of individuals is maximized and makes a big difference.
However, that is not to say we should ignore the responsibility of the government and big companies. Admittedly, in solving some large-scale problems like deforestation and greenhouse effect, the government and big companies should fully harness their technology and power to come up with strategic plans.
In summary, everyone is responsible for protecting our planet. Meanwhile, the government and big companies should shoulder their responsibilities and make full use of their power and resources. Only in this way can we assure that we can hand over the planet to our next generation.
