Read the following passage. Decide if the statements are True or False.
The history of the mini-skirt
Mary Quant was born in England in 1934. She has been interested in fashion since she was a child. She didn't like the conventional clothes worn by adults and when she grew up she adapted her school uniform: she cut her skirt and wore long socks.
In 1955, Mary opened the world's first boutique in London, England. She designed all the clothes and made them on her old sewing machine. In this boutique she sold "wild and kinky" clothes, like the ones she wore. In her designs she used bright colours, lots of plastic, and ensured the hemlines were shorter than the "norm". Her designs became known as "mod" clothes. Her unique boutique made her a local celebrity in London.
In 1965, the younger girls in London began wearing their skirts extremely short. After noticing this, Mary began designing and manufacturing skirts that were even shorter. She named them "mini-skirts”. Influential women such as models and movie stars began wearing these fashions and the "mini-skirts” became an immediate success.
During the 60's, Mary's designs became so popular that they were sold all over Europe and America.
Mary worked as a designer for over forty years and she designed not only clothes, but also bed linen, sunglasses, bathroom furnishings, wallpaper and started her own cosmetics company.
There's no doubt that the 60s fashion has a major influence on today's styles. The 60s are well-known to be the most fashion conscious times in our history of clothing. Styles from the 60s are still being worn by women today. Almost all young girls, teens and even grown women have, at least, one "mini-skirt" in their wardrobes.
