Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the best answer to each of the following questions from 23 to 30.
Pre-teen and teenage relationships with parents and families change during adolescence, but pre-teens and teenagers need parent and family support as much as they did when they were younger.
When your child was young, your role was to nurture and guide them. Now you might be finding that your relationship with your child is becoming more equal. You remain a source of care, emotional support, security and safety for your child, as well as practical and financial help. Your child still loves you and wants you to be involved in their life – even though their attitude or behaviour might sometimes send a different message. Most young people and their families have ups and downs during these years, but things usually improve by late adolescence as children become more mature. And family relationships tend to stay strong right through.
Adolescence can be a difficult time. Your child is going through rapid physical changes as well as emotional ups and downs. Young people aren’t always sure where they fit, and they’re still trying to work it out. Adolescence can also be a time when peer influences cause stress. During this time, your family is a secure emotional base where your child feels loved and accepted, no matter what’s going on in the rest of their life. Your family can build and support your child’s confidence, resilience, optimism and identity.
When your family sets rules, boundaries and standards of behaviour and builds strong relationships, you give your child a sense of consistency, predictability, safety and belonging. And believe it or not, your life experiences and knowledge can be useful to your child – they just might not always want you to know it! Supportive and close family relationships protect your child from risky behaviour like alcohol and other drug use and mental health problems like depression. Your support and interest in what your child is doing at school can boost their desire to do well academically too.

Read the following passage about conservation and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the option that best fits each of the numbered blanks from 31 to 40.
[I] In what conservationists are calling a watershed moment, the ambitious Greater Mekong Wildlife Bridge Project has encountered an unexpected stumbling block. [II] Despite an unprecedented $50 million investment, the migrating elephant populations have plummeted by 35% since the project began. [III] These statistics have sent shock waves through the whole conservation community, challenging long-held assumptions about the effectiveness of wildlife corridor. [IV]
Wildlife corridors are designed to connect isolated habitats, giving animals safe paths to move between areas. These artificial pathways were meant to ensure species survival in the face of habitat destruction. Yet beneath this seemingly foolproof approach lies a more complex reality. As human communities expand into these areas, the corridors become dangerous zones. Animals following these predictable routes often face life-threatening risks from poachers who have got wind of their movement patterns.
From recent findings by the Southeast Asian Conservation Institute, what emerges is a thought-provoking picture. When faced with human disturbance, elephants changed their migration routes, wandering into unprotected areas. This behavior proved catastrophic – poaching incidents soared by 180% in these zones. The findings have left conservationists shaking their heads over the unintended consequences of their well-meaning interventions.
The economic implications of corridor conservation make an already thorny issue even more complicated. Local communities often view these projects with skepticism as farmers are forced to change traditional practices after authorities implement strict land-use regulations. While compensation schemes exist on paper, they rarely translate into adequate financial support for those affected, fueling much tension.
Conservation biologists have begun advocating for a new approach. Rather than imposing artificial corridors, they propose integrating wildlife paths into existing human infrastructure. This strategy has already borne fruit in countries like Malaysia, where elevated highways incorporate natural underpasses. These structures allow for wildlife movement while maintaining human activity above. It’s a win-win situation.
Nevertheless, critics argue that such solutions merely address the tip of the iceberg: humanity’s non-stop expansion into natural habitats. As urban sprawl continues unabated, even these innovative ideas might not be enough to protect wildlife in the long run. The question remains: can we find a lasting solution that truly supports both people and nature?
